Containers traffic at Tanjung Priok Port Jakarta from January to July 2020 was recorded at 3.48 million TEUs or 9.54% lower than July 2019 which reached 3.85 million TEUs.
Activities at ports are strongly influenced by economic activities such as export and import. Previously, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) stated that Indonesia's export performance in July 2020 reached USD13.73 billion or 9.90% lower than July 2019.
Meanwhile, Indonesia's import performance in July 2020 reached USD10.47 billion or decreased by 32.55% compared to July 2019. July 2019.
"The decline in container traffic during the pandemic is still felt, but as trade facilitators we are ready to maintain the smooth flow of national export and import," said Arif Suhartono, President Director of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II (Persero) / IPC, Friday (28/8).
Even though the container traffic has decreased, direct shipping services (direct call) to a number of countries during the pandemic continued.
Until now, Tanjung Priok Port continues to open direct shipping with international shipping routes to various destination countries including Australia, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea and Southeast Asia. (hlz/hlz)
